FAQs
What are HSA and FSA accounts?
Health Savings Account (HSA) and flexible spending accounts (FSA) are programs that allow you to set aside pre-tax dollars for eligible healthcare expenses.
If you’re unsure whether or not you have an HSA or FSA account, please check with your employer or insurance company.
How does using my HSA and FSA account save me money?
HSA/FSA accounts were created so individuals could use pre-tax money to pay for expenses used to treat, mitigate, or prevent a diagnosed medical condition. Because HSA/FSAs use pre-tax money, you’re getting more purchasing power for your dollars. Rather than pay taxes on income and then spend it on health items, qualified customers can use pre-tax funds to invest in their health.
An individual can contribute up to $4,150 pretax to their HSA per year, or $8,300 for a family (plus an additional $1,000 if you are at least 55 years old. Individuals can contribute up to $3,200 pretax to their FSA per year (with an additional $500 in employer contributions allowed).
Can I use my HSA/FSA at Mamazing?
Yes! Simply select Truemed as your payment option at checkout and use your HSA or FSA card like a standard credit card. The process takes about 5 minutes to complete a short health questionnaire and receive a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN).
Eligible products may include nursery chairs designed for breastfeeding comfort and postpartum support, as well as mattresses designed to support breathable, temperature-regulated infant sleep environments.
How do I use my HSA/FSA for Mamazing?
Mamazing has partnered with Truemed to enable HSA/FSA eligible purchases.
To use your HSA/FSA:
- Select “Truemed – Pay with HSA/FSA” at checkout
- Complete a short HIPAA-compliant health questionnaire (~60 seconds)
- A licensed clinician will review your submission
If approved:
- Truemed issues a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN)
- You can then pay with your HSA/FSA card
Note: Approval is not guaranteed. A request may be denied if the clinician determines it is not medically necessary, or if your HSA/FSA administrator classifies it as primarily personal use (rare when LMN is issued).
Can I use my regular credit card at checkout?
Yes. If you prefer to use your regular credit card, Truemed will send you instructions on how to submit for reimbursement from your HSA/FSA administrator.
However, to minimize being misled into purchasing without reimbursement, we suggest using your HSA/FSA card directly as some administrators may decline certain categories at their discretion.
Alternatively, you can reach out to your administrator to confirm eligibility.
When should I use my FSA/HSA dollars?
You can use your funds anytime during the year.
However:
- FSA funds usually expire at year-end
- Unused FSA funds may not roll over
We recommend using remaining balances before December 31.
Are there fees associated with Truemed?
There is no cost to you, as long as you are shopping with a Truemed partner merchant.
What is a Letter of Medical Necessity, and how is this compliant?
A Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) is a written statement from your healthcare provider that explains why a product or service is necessary for the treatment of your condition.
What a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) typically includes:
- Patient’s name
- Diagnosis or medical condition
- Recommended product (e.g., cooling bedding)
- Explanation of how the product will help manage the condition
- Provider’s signature and credentials
Why it matters:
- Without an LMN, bedding purchases will almost always be denied.
- With one, you can use HSA/FSA funds at checkout or request reimbursement.
Tip: Many HSA/FSA administrators provide downloadable LMN forms. Ask your doctor to complete the form and keep it on file when submitting claims.
The items in your Truemed Letter of Medical Necessity (“LMN”) could now become qualified medical expenses in the same way a visit to the doctor’s office or pharmaceutical product is.
Your Truemed LMN satisfies all IRS requirements to make your wellness spend fully reimbursable. This is a common requirement for many wellness-related products, which can be made reimbursable through HSA or FSA funds when a medical professional deems them necessary for a patient's health.
How long does it take to receive my LMN?
Most Letters of Medical Necessity (LMNs) are issued within 24–48 hours.
In some cases, additional review time may be needed.
If you don’t receive it:
- Check your spam folder
- Or contact: support@truemed.com
I don’t have an HSA/FSA. Can I still use Truemed?
Truemed is only available for customers with:
- An active HSA or FSA account, or
- A plan to contribute during open enrollment
Please check with your employer or benefits provider for eligibility details.
